Jeremy Owen Turner (b. 1974, Victoria, B.C., Canada) is an inter-disciplinary artist, writer, virtual performer and music (audio) composer currently based in Vancouver but exhibits, curates, performs and collaborates globally. He is a contract Digital Media archivist at: Open Space, and the Edgewise Electrolit Centre. Recently, he has become the Co-Ordinator for the LIVE Biennial of Performance Art in Vancouver. His degree is in Art-History from the University of Victoria where he has studied music composition with John Celona, Christopher Butterfield and John Cole.

Turner is a co-founder of an international artist collective, 536 in Vancouver, Canada. 536 was voted “Best Residential Arts Collective” by the Georgia Straight Magazine in Vancouver. With Donato Mancini and Flick Harrison, Turner co-produced the first proper avatar documentary called AVATARA. The AVATARA documentary was nominated for “Best Picture” at the 2003 Machinima Film Festival at the Museum of the Moving Image, New York. Turner is also a co-producer for the pioneering avatar performance group called The Gates. Turner used to be a regular Arts/Entertainment critic for AOL Canada and website reviewer/interviewer for Intelligent Agent in New York. You can find some of his archived interviews published in print and online on CTheory, Rhizome, Extropy, Eyebeam, and articles about avatar culture on Shift. He is still a regular contributor to Front Magazine in Vancouver.

Greatestbits
Jeremy Turner will be presenting his collaborative digital audio curatorial project, Greatestbits. Available at greatestbits.com, Turner, along with the Finnish Aesthetics Scholar Janne Vanhanen have been archiving, presenting and individually reviewing original digital audio submissions with a maximum length of 1 second. Turner will provide a brief guided tour of the Greatestbits website and explain the theoretical origins behind the project.
