 Greater Periscope

The work of the Greater Periscope Orchestra emanates from a belief in Open Source Conversation. They are interested in using electronic music software to encourage traditional participation in lyric and melody making. The performance extends to the informal social space.

Radio has been their preferred format for output. To this end, they have staged a number of events using situations as a radio source:
  • Conversations on Scottish and Canadian mountains while pretending to be broadcasting
  • Jamming to the recording of the set-up with New Forms
  • Singing songs about the moon from moonrise at Bantham Bay, Devon, England.
  • Rotterdam 'Tea with Live Jam' with conversations remixed as after-tea-entertainment.
  • Banff, 'Spaghetti Jam' for residency artists using artist's presentations as a base track
  • Banff final show arranged a fire-pit sing-a-long with song sheets of field-recordings:
    1. 'Italians on the Moon'
    2. 'Sheep on the Beach'
  • 444fm.com broadcast Celtic Missions until take over of Radio 90, airing Director's Notes
  • Another Radio 90 7 hour French Shift Therapy Sessions with the Resident Artists.
For Interactive Futures, The GPO will be remixing the proceedings as a performance.
